At the second week of my stay, I got to go to a family party with my host family. Every culture has a unique set of values, traditions and norms. In general, Hispanic people are very family oriented, and the general culture of Mexican families has a strong foundation in unity. Mexico has traditionally been home to a patriarchal family structure. There are defined roles for mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters in Mexican families. Although Mexican families tend to be patriarchal, but it is usually the mother who is in charge of household. Women play crucial roles in the family. There is even a funny slang; el poder del huarache, which refers to a flip flop used by a Mexican moms to beat their child or husband for doing something that angers them! :)

It was very interesting to see that even the extended family is as important as the main family since it provides a sense of support and stability. Interpersonal relationships are very important, as well as respect, love, loyalty and emotional support, passion to make conversation about daily routines, or about food and drinks, and food recipes.
