San José De Gracia

If you want to take a day trip from Aguascalientes over the weekend, San José de Gracia could be a great option! It’s a small municipality in the state of Aguascalientes, located in the north of the city. The distance between the two cities is almost 1 hour by driving. The road is beautiful and is full of green hills and stunning scenery. The top two attractions of this region are the statue of El Cristo Roto (Broken Jesus) and Boca del Tunel Adventure Park.

When you get to the place where Cristo Roto is, you see more or less what you would expect to see: a large sculpture of Jesus, with one arm and one leg missing. Many people seemed to be reflecting or praying.

Boca de Tunel

Boca de tunel adventure park is another amazing place which offers a wide variety of outdoor activities, including zip-lines, hanging bridges, and mountain biking. On Sunday, I went with my friends from AIESEC to explore this beautiful place! It was a fantastic day out, and definitely one the most terrifying adrenaline rush of my life! I was quite nervous when crossing one of the suspension bridges, but the guides were so great at easing my nerve and we all had a great time! :)

Calvillo

Another must-do day trips near Aguascalientes is the city of Calvillo. It is located about 52 kilometers from the city and has a number of attractions of interest to tourists.

Malpaso Canyon and Dam is an impressive natural space, from where you can see a wide variety of birds and contemplate a pretty landscape full of cacti and wild bushes, swim or take a bike ride along the canyon.

We went to a restaurant that they have right next to the water, which was beautiful. When you go to a restaurant in Mexico, they usually bring you some totopos (tortilla chips) with chile verde which you can also eat with lemon and salt. I got some fish and rice and tried my friend’s seafood dish too – it was absolutely delicious!
