One of the things that I like the most about the GLS project is its complete alignment with AIESEC commitment towards the Global Goals for sustainable development. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. With these social impact projects that directly contribute to the UN SDG’s, AIESEC provides an opportunity for young people to create awareness, foster engagement and take action to implement these goals. My project is based on SDG #4 which is focused on the quality of education worldwide.

The first step towards the achievement of global goals is to raise awareness and make students familiar with them. Therefore, I started this week with a PowerPoint presentation explaining about the background of SDG’s and the key issues they aim to tackle by the year 2030. Most of the students had never heard about SDG’s before, so it was a new topic for them. After learning about the importance of the goals, we watched a video of some real world examples of people around the world who contribute in local and national projects as innovators, inventors and campaigners to support the achievement of the goals. At the end of the class, I asked students to think about some actions they can take to get involved in SDG’s in their community. I assigned students in each class to deliver a presentation on a preselected goal in groups, and to facilitate discussions with their classmates for the next session.
